Lilly E. Richards, 78, of Westmoreland, died suddenly on Monday September 29, 2014. Born in Clinton, NY on Nov. 12, 1935, Lilly was the daughter of the late Walter and Frieda Eisenhut, both originally from Switzerland. She graduated from Clinton Central School, and the Faxton School of Nursing. She retired from the NYS Dept. of Corrections, having worked as a nurse. She also worked at the DMV, the Morgan Horse Assoc, and as postal carrier in Clinton. In her retirement, she enjoyed Fritz's Polka Band, college basketball especially Syracuse University, was an avid gardener and loved to plant a wide arrangement of unique flowers and plants. She loved the outdoors and time with her family. During her earlier years she drove school bus and was a life guard in the town of Westmoreland. She enjoyed competition and was an early trail blazer of women's sports. That competitive spirit was abundant as a high school athlete and later as an accomplished bowler. Lilly is survived by her beloved children, Ernest Richards of Utica, NY; Fred and wife Joan Richards of Westmoreland, NY; Susan Richards and her husband Larry Lelievre of Westmoreland; Kenneth Richards, also of Westmoreland; and Patty Richards and her husband Jeff Clark of Williston, VT. Lilly was a devoted grandmother of Nicole and husband Shawn, Elisha and fiancé Charlie, Andy, Carolyn and significant other Bryan, Roy, Keith and significant other Erin, Travis, Amanda and husband Josh, Mikala and Kaitlin. She was an equally loving great-grandmother to Kyle, Ava, Annabella. Lilly is also survived by her brother, Walter Eisenhut, and his wife Joan, and Ann Eisenhut, the widow of her brother Romey. Further left to mourn Lilly are her ex-husband Doug Richards; sister-in-law, Betty Craig; brother-in law Ralph and wife Florence Richards of Vernon, NY; brother-in-law Bill and his wife Barb Richards of AZ, and many nieces and nephews. Lilly will be missed a continent away by all her family in Switzerland; the Günter's and Eisenhut's with special recognition of niece Sybille and Aunt Helene Günter. She will also be missed by her dog Bella and cat Fritz. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Lilly's memory to the Rescue Mission of Utica or the Rome Humane Society. Calling hours will be held from 5-7pm on Saturday October 4th, 2014 at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc., 35 College St, Clinton, NY. Private Services Will be held for the family.
