Obituary of Robert W. Nelson

Robert W. Nelson, 90, passed away at home on Sunday, June 14, 2015 and was reunited with his dear wife Barbara on his way to heaven. He was born in Hecla on March 14, 1925, a son of LeRoy and Florence (Pick) Nelson. Bob married Barbara Petrie on January 13, 1956 and shared 58 years of love and friendship until her death on April 24, 2014. He retired from Pettibone in Rome after many years of service. Bob was an avid hunter and enjoyed watching the turkeys and deer pass through the back yard. He was a devoted husband and father who preferred to spend time at home with his family. He is survived by his seven children and their spouses, Bonnie and Harold Rutledge of Delaware, Connie and Steven Osterhoudt of Vernon, Robert and Audrey Nelson of Westmoreland, Barbara and Joe Casamento of Florida, Bruce and Lisa Nelson of Vernon, Edward Nelson and Mary Stolarcyk of Westmoreland and Todd and Pam Nelson of Westmoreland; fourteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law Betty and Paul Lauri of Clark Mills; brother-in-law and sister-in-law James and Dorothy Petrie of Westmoreland; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife and his brother Carlton "Zeke" Nelson. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at 2pm at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc., 35 College St., Clinton. All are invited to call Wednesday from Noon – 2pm prior to the funeral. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Westmoreland. Please consider donations to the American Diabetes Assoc.
